A 1/4" to 1/8" adapter will work to your mic in of your computer and make sure your don't have any mic inputs on mute in your control panel settings. You should have a good feel for your computer's control panel settings and your configuration so that you can zero in on any no sound issue. I here a line 6 is cool to use before you get to your computer from your guitar. Great sound controls.
My preferred way is to get a good sound card. OJS uses a Delta 4/10 sound card that was purchased through Musicians Friend. To the best of my knowledge, this sound card is obsolete now and you can purchase the delta 10/10 now. Then there are software programs that let you add effects and record what is being played in the Jam Rooms. I use Cubase and wavelab myself.
