Live Jam from OJS Jam Rooms |
FAQ
OJS FAQ'S
Q: How easy is it to set up and
Jam?
A: Some people just use a
regular mic just to test out the Jam Rooms. And it can be as simple as that and
you're able to Jam. Others are running through boards and software that require
you to understand you're setup on you're computer. You may have to check all
you're setting to get audio to the site through this method. Many get lucky
right off the bat and never have to go through this process. But in case you do,
just play around in you're control panel or in you're software settings and make
sure nothing is muted anywhere. Check line in's, output's, sends that may have
been used for other applications prior, things like this. Here is something that
may be helpful as well. Click here Also check in the forums
for posts from members.
A: If you have signed up as a free member and want to get Plugged in to the Live Video function, go to your my account and choose upgrade membership. You will have a few membership choices to choose from. Pick the plan you want and just follow the steps from there.
Q: Now that I have joined, how do I use the Audio/Video?
A: Go to the Jam Rooms Tab. Once you are there, there is a short introduction on the landing page for everyone to read. Shows you how to cast audio and video. Look for the (?) symbol at the top right of the player. This will help you understand how the audio/video area works. The main thing is to click the speaker icon next to you're big picture, (this will cast you're audio to the site) and you will see a blue bar (meter) on the right of you're big picture showing sound is working. if others can't hear you and the blue bar is showing like is should be working, then this is when you start looking in you're computer settings as mentioned above. As everyone cast's their audio, others in the list at top right will have a little speaker icon appear next to their name. Click each user's speaker icon that you want to hear their audio to Jam with. You won't see you're own speaker icon in this list but as they click you're icon on their end, they can tell you if they hear you and whether levels need to come up or go down.
Q: What all can be done when I Join as a Paid Member?
A: You will have full functionality to all aspects of OJS. This is a large site and it could take you a while to actually see how much you can do here. One thing that is cool for any Musician or Music Teacher is the fact that you can record your sessions (as long as you have software installed on you're computer) and share them with others in the OJS Community. Also (for Musicians), if you have just finished a Jam and happened to be recording it, you can now download it to your computer software programs for tweaking and mastering to Professional Quality. Any Musician that understand this step will more than likely have a recording studio or some kind of good recording software to make this happen.
Example: Say only one member of your Band has all the recording equipment set up at his house or Studio and none of the other Band members have this setup. Well obviously the person with the equipment will be in charge of this. Now the cool thing is, once Mastered, you can now use OJS to send your final cut back to each member so they can hear the final cut.
Q: Will OJS be making upgrades to the site?
A: Yes, as of the start date 10-29-08 OJS is in the feeling out process to see that this site is going to take off as expected. Once OJS see's the expected results, we will be upgrading every aspect of this site. I.E., Connecting to our own Servers for better control over everything. Video is the most expensive cost when it comes to eating up bandwidth on a server. The more people, the more bandwidth = more $$$ to the host. So long story short, OJS is looking forward to reinvesting back to the Community to better our site.
Q: How does the Affiliate program work?
A: If you join our Affiliate program you will be given a unique url that will be tracked to your activity. Every sale that is made through your link will automatically generate a 10% Commission paid to you. Just promote this link and you can start making money.
Q: Where can I get the equipment to start recording my Bands music?
A: Just for the record, your computer will more than likely already be equipt with a sound card that can be ready to just Plug in and start using our program. But for those that want more, I suggest going to zZounds if you are not set up yet and get a delta 10/10 (or better) sound card and get a Qbase software program for digital recording and Wavelab software for effects. Set up your computer once you have these and now your ready to Rock and Roll. If you have a mixing board, it can be incorporated into your sound card and now the skies the limit.
